Software - Stellarium
Stellarium is a virtual planetarium (and is actually used in Planetaria around the world). It shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you would see with your naked eye, binoculars or a telescope.
This software is highly recommended for discussions about constellations, and investigations that involve the motion of the Earth both on its axis and around the Sun.
Installation

Click on this link to get the executable (18.8 MB) file for the Windows version of Stellarium. Go to the Stellarium Website to download versions for other platforms (e.g. Mac OS X and Linux).

Right click on stellarium.exe in the C:\Program Files\Stellarium directory to create a shortcut.

Drag this shortcut to the Desktop or other appropriate place.
