How do I Login? Why do I require to login?

  1. You need to log in to view your details, your bookings and their status, and most importantly, to make a booking for the microscopes. Without logging, you can still view current bookings of the microscopes, details of the microscopes, booking rates, this FAQ, contact details and the safety instructions.
  2. You need to register first in order to login. Please use the "Register" link on the side menu and follow the instructions to register.
  3. If you have already registered, you can login by using the username and password that you used to register from the login link in the side menu.
  4. If you have forgotten your password, use the "I have forgotten my password" link in the login page. If you have forgotten your username, email us your full name and organization, and we will retrieve it for you.

How do I view current bookings?

  1. You do not require to be logged in to view current list of bookings
  2. Click on "Check current bookings" in the left menu of the webpages.
  3. Click on the Calendar for the particular day you are interested in, or if you are looking for a particular time period, use the "Search" feature below the calendars. The calendars also have different color codes according to whether the dates have been booked out or have some bookings
  4. You will be presented with a list of current bookings for that date or time period. Note that the booking may have started before the searched date/period and may last after the date/period.
  5. The status of the bookings are also indicated, bookings cancelled or awaiting confirmation are shown in red.
  6. You can view more details by clicking on the "View Details" link, which will open in a new window.
  7. You will be able to book in a time period if that period has no bookings or bookings in that time period has been cancelled.

How do I make a booking?

  1. You need to be logged in to make a booking.
  2. If you are authorized, you can directly make a booking, which will reserve the time slot you chose for you. If you are not authorized, you can still request for a booking, which will reserve the requested time slot, but will have to be confirmed by us. Once confirmed, you will be notified by email.
  3. Once you login, you will see the option to make a booking (or request a booking if you are not authorized) for the microscopes. Click on the link and you will be taken to the page where you can specify the booking date and the times. For your reference, the current bookings are visible in the calendars at the bottom of the page.
  4. Choose the date and time. You will only be able to make a booking for one day at a time, from 7 am to 11 pm. Special security access are required for after hour access (after 6pm and in weekends), so please contact us after you make a booking if you require such access.
  5. If the time you chose is available, you will have to go through a series of compulsory safetly agreement for microscope usage, which you need to agree on in order to proceed with the booking.
  6. You will then be taken to a form to enter details about you and your projects. If you have booked earlier, some of these details will be filled automatically for you from your last booking.
  7. Enter/review the details. If you are not satisfied with the rate given in this page, for example, if you have just registered, you may be assigned a high rate for the new users, click on the "I request reconsideration of fees" option and enter your reasons.
  8. For account number/ABN field, if you are an internal user (from Macquarie University), just enter the account details from which the microscope usage charges are to be deducted. For other users, you will be asked to enter an 11-digit ABN number, which you can find for your institute from here. If you still need to put in details about the account number to be charged, or any "Attention to" field, please put it in the address field of the booking form.
  9. Press the button to submit.
  10. After submitting your booking form, you will be issued with an invoice/cost advice. For internal users (from Macquarie University), this advice is an agreement to allow charging of the booking charges from the nominated account. For external users, a formal invoice will be posted to the address entered, once the microscope is used. If you were not authorized to make a complete booking, your booking request will be reviewed by us as soon as possible and you will be notified about it by email. Please keep your copy of the invoice for your record.

How am I charged for using the microscopes?

  1. You are assigned a rate for microscopes according to the group you have been assigned to. You can view the group rates here.
  2. You might be also assigned an individual rates in special cases.
  3. Non-Macquarie users will be charged 10% tax on top of these rates.
  4. New users are by default assigned to "Inexperienced users" group.
  5. You will be able to see the rate assigned to you after you login (under each microscope names).
  6. If you think you are not assigned to the correct group, contact us by email with your full name and username.

Am I authorized to make a booking?

  1. Most of the users are given authority to book the microscopes directly.
  2. New users are by default not given direct authority to book the microscopes.
  3. All unauthorized users can still request for a booking, which will reserve the requested time slot. The booking request process is exactly the same as making a full booking. However, after the the booking request is made, we will review your booking and confirm it for you. You will be notified once the booking has been confirmed.
  4. You will be able to see the authority state assigned to you after you login (under each microscope names).
  5. If you are not authorized and would like to be an authorized user, contact us by email with your full name and username.

What is ABN number? How do I find it?

  1. Each Australian business/institute requires an ABN (Australian Business Number). You can find details about getting it in FAQ 2.8.

What are the safety measures? Am I covered for any accidents? What do I do in emergency situations?

What are the access hours for the microscopes?

The microscopes can be booked used between 8am to 11pm each day. Bookings must start between 8am and 6pm and must end before 11pm. However, access cards will be required for after hours (after 6pm) and weekends, so please insure that you have access, or arrange for it by contacting us.
