Do you have a talent for Physics?
The Bachelor of Advanced Science is an elite degree suitable for gifted and talented Physics students. Student numbers are restricted so that you will enjoy personal attention including your own academic mentor throughout your degree. You will benefit from special advanced units not available to other students.
You will have close interaction with academics from the three major concentrations of research excellence which are based in the department. You will have the opportunity to take part in research and gain practical experience working in our leading research laboratories. This may include a summer vacation scholarship and a third year research project. This degree is an excellent preparation for going on to honours and postgraduate studies in Physics and Astronomy.
Program of Study
The degree requires full-time study over 3 years. You choose between majoring in Physics or Astronomy and Astrophysics, and in addition you will study specialised advanced units and gain real research experience.
In the first year you will participate in an accelerated learning program (PHYS188) including short courses, seminars, discussions and a literature based research project in modern physics.
Typically, at the end of the second year you will have a Summer Vacation Scholarship. This will allow you to experience the excitement of working alongside graduate research students, research fellows and academics on a research project within one of our high profile research centres or groups.
In the 3rd year of the program, you will study further short courses, seminars and discussions of advanced topics and advanced project work (PHYS388).
