Physics and Astronomy
Postgraduate Studies
The department of Physics and Astronomy has undergone a huge expansion and in this exciting environment, there are many opportunities for postgraduate work towards an MPhil or PhD.
Scholarships are available for both domestic and international students. While some scholarships are specifically advertised, a strong candidate may be awarded a scholarship for research in any area.
Find a Supervisor
The first thing to do is to find a potential supervisor, whose research fits with your own interests. We suggest two routes:
- Look for an advertised PhD position
- Browse our Research pages, and contact individual researchers. Researchers are happy to consider applications at any time, and scholarships are available for suitable candidates.
Contact supervisors who seem to fit your needs, and discuss with them their research, scholarship funding, and your fit with their research group, before submitting a formal application.
Scholarships and Awards
A range of scholarships is available for support of students undergoing postgraduate research studies, providing at least $22,500 for living expenses, with some positions including an additional top-up. For more information, see the HDR site.
Apply for a position
It is recommended that you start by contacting the researcher with whom you wish to work. They will then guide you through the application process, and confirm with you that you meet the eligibility requirements.
